Severn Trent Water: One Year On

By In ControlPoint On November 27, 2013

To mark the first anniversary of Severn Trent Water changing their Design Manual specification to incorporate an asset verification system, ControlPoint joined the One Supply Chain partners at the 2013 Leadership Forum on Tuesday 15th October.

Held at the Harvest Fields Centre in Sutton Coldfield, this event provides a platform for Severn Trent’s asset creation team to discuss new ideas and plans for the future. As part of this, ControlPoint and the One Supply Chain partners (Amey, Laing O’Rourke and Morgan Sindall) took part in a ‘Brown Paper’ task that allowed them to showcase the work that had been carried out since October 2013.

Through a collection of short presentations, the team were able to demonstrate how the relationship between all three parties has moved on, with a large wall display (pictured left) reflecting the journey that has been undertaken.

Tom Holdsworth, who represented ControlPoint at the event, welcomed the chance to illustrate the progress that had been made:

“The event gave us a chance to present our work to people within Severn Trent Water who were aware of our hardware and technology but not necessarily how it had been used to increased standards on- and off-site.

It was particularly relevant that the day focused on collaboration, which allowed us to promote how all four parties have worked together.”

During the presentation the team gave a brief indication to the background of the system before highlighting the improved electrofusion jointing performance across all three contractors and how there are plans afoot to further this development in the future.

Alex Milner (responsible for Continuous Improvement and Standards on the Severn Trent Water Design and Build Team), saw the Brown Paper being presented:

“Having been very close to the system since its inception, it was refreshing to take a step back and see how we have all worked together to make significant progress. The Brown Paper did a great job of showcasing the collaboration and how the sharing of ideas has contributed to the improvement.

We are now looking forward to developing the current ideas that are on the table and for another successful year working alongside ControlPoint and the One Supply Chain partners”.
